Jeff Immelt’s tenure as Chairman and CEO of General Electric started off on a low note, i.e., he took over the role on September 7, 2001 - just four days before the terrorist attacks on the United States. The attacks killed several GE’s employees and cost its insurance business over $600 million, as well as having an obvious direct effect on the company's Aircraft Engines sector. No doubt Immelt’s leadership skills were put to test immediately. It must be worthwhile thus to listen to Immelt’s views about leadership.
